NL: Tijdens de Covid-19 periode biedt TU Delft verschillende uitdagende stage- en afstudeeropdrachten aan, die samen met het bedrijfsleven en de faculteiten CEG, 3mE, TPM en EWI zijn opgezet, gerelateerd aan het optimaliseren van het Nederlandse spoorsysteem. Studenten van iedere faculteit zijn vrij om te reageren. Opdrachten kunnen in overleg worden aangepast om te kunnen voldoen aan specifiek gestelde voorwaarden per afdeling of studierichting en begeleiding is mogelijk in het Engels of Nederlands.
EN: Also during Covid-19 it is possible to start a graduation project at TU Delft Railway Engineering. All projects can be adapted to any requirements set by your faculty or department and executed as internship or graduation project.

Automatic Train Operation (ATO), and automatic driving in general, are popular discussion topics. Technological opportunities abound and many safe ATO implementations already exist. However, safe implementation of ATO isn’t possible everywhere on every system. Your task is to evaluate the safety of ATO in general: Which hazards are introduced by removing the train driver? Do level crossings become more dangerous? How to respond in case extreme weather is forecast? Do we really need fences or platform screen doors to prevent people and animals from wandering onto the railway tracks? Is the current set of rules and regulations still applicable, or do they need to be reconsidered? How would ATO affect European and Dutch railway laws?
